Wanted: FB Fans!

Greetings Coyotes!
Our Facebook page is in major need of some “likes.”

From now through Friday, April 8 – the person who refers the most friends (students, parents or staff; doesn’t matter) to our FB page and “likes” it – wins a $25 Gift Certificate to one of the fine eatery establishments in our local area (i.e. Filibertos, Subway, McDonald’s, Burger King, etc). Your choice.

Here’s how it works. Tell a friend to like us. Heck, make it easy on them – tell them they can find us at facebook.com/combscoyotes. Then, have them email TheCoyoteDen@gmail.com and tell us who referred them to our page. The winner will be chosen by the number of people they refer.

Wait - it gets better! We will then take the names of our new friends (that the winner introduced us to) and put them into a drawing. The name selected will receive a $15 Gift Certificate to one of the fine local eatery establishments of their choice (see list above).

Sound easy enough?!
What are you still doing here? Rally up your friends!

P.S. While you're at it - become a fan of this blog [by clicking the "follow" botton right.over.there. <---]

Filiberto's [Okay...Spring Break Wrestling Camp]

Last week, during one of my usual trips to Filiberto's (mmmm, Carne Asada!), I came across a flyer. The word "Coyote" caught my eye. Being a sucker for anything Combs, I picked it up and scanned what appeared to be an invitation.

The Coyotes Wrestling Team is having a Spring Break Wrestling Camp on March 14 – 18!
The cost is $35 per child [with sibling discounts available].

The flyer says that the camp is open to students in grades K thru 8.

This is where I became confused. The high school was putting on an event - but wasn't inviting their own high schoolers? A typo for sure, right?! I decided to call the number on the flyer; I got the coach’s voicemail. I left a jumbled message about wanting more information - and to please call me back.

Within a few minutes, my office phone rang and I had the pleasure of speaking with Coach Flowers. After I explained who I was and why I wanted the information - the coach set me straight.

The reason why the high schoolers were not being invited to take part in the camp is because THEY were the ones HOLDING the camp. The current Coyotes wrestlers (our Combs students) are giving back to their community and up-and-coming mat enthusiasts by hosting their younger peers at CHS during Spring Break. They are teaching what they've been taught. I LOVE it! Swoon!!

Coach Flowers, on his Combs Wrestling website states “The camp will introduce the sport of wrestling through positive engagement and interaction where each participant will learn the basics in the sport of wrestling and the intermediate wrestler will learn to refine their skills. The participants are divided into age groups and weight classes to ensure that each receives a positive experience.”

If you want to support Combs, the Wrestling team and give your child something fun and engaging to do this Spring Break [that does not involve Call of Duty and X-Box controllers], I suggest you check out the details [location & times]. You can also call Coach Flowers @ 480-882-3540 x1827 or email him at coyotewrestling@gmail.com.

If your child takes part in the camp, come back and let me know how they did! Maybe when my youngest is old enough [next year], I will be sending him to Coach Flowers! ;)

Important Note from CHS: Packs from the Pack

Dear Community Member;
Combs High School is excited to share our latest philanthropic adventure. Packs from the Pack is currently seeking to help students-in-need within the Combs Community. We are doing this by providing them with scholastic backpacks. Our project serves two purposes. First, we can hopefully offer students-in-need essential back-to-school supplies. Secondly, it pulls our community together and furthers our partnership with local residents and businesses in San Tan Valley.
We are seeking your participation in this exciting venture. Our community has the potential to not only help in a charitable way, but also get the word out about your thoughtful organization. Please consider what it is you can give toward this project. We are in need of school supplies, backpacks, gift cards, cash donations, coupons for services (i.e. haircuts, basic dental care, etc.) All schools in the J.O. Combs District are accepting donations. Keep your eyes out for donation boxes in local eateries and businesses. Don’t forget to record your efforts for tax purposes. See below for the tax identification number. Thank you!
Please do not hesitate to contact Principal Brenda Mayberry at 480.882.3540 with any questions, concerns or ideas you may have. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 10-2pm at Combs High School, where we will be putting together our Packs from the Pack—followed with a community celebratory picnic!

With Warmth & Gratitude,
The Pack at Combs High School

Spring Break

Can you believe that Spring Break is next week?! Neither can we!! Five whole days of us having our teenagers home with us. Do you have any fun travel plans scheduled?
Besides a whole lot of yard work, I know my family will be will heading up towards Christopher Creek; after all of the cold fronts we have had this winter, we are ready for some hiking and fresh air!

If you are looking for something to do sooner than that - there is a Varsity Baseball game against Shadow Ridge at CHS today - starts @ 4pm.  The JV team will be travelling to Sierra Linda (way out in Phoenix) for their second game of the season tomorrow. We wish both teams the best of luck!

Enjoy this beautiful spring weather!!

Welcome!

Welcome to the Coyote Den.
This site is dedicated to capturing the happenings at Combs High School in San Tan Valley. The Coyote Den is maintained by the parents of Combs High School and the views expressed on this site are not necessarily the views of Combs High School or the JO Combs School District.

The purpose of the Coyote Den is to allow our students, our parents and our community to see what happens around campus and during after school/extra-curricular activities.

Give CHS a chance to show you their commitment to our students and the community in which we live and play.
